Associate Professor Darren Whitfield, PhD, will lead a newly funded study titled "Project Transcendence - HIV PrEP Uptake, Use, and Adherence Among Black Transgender Women."
Gilead Sciences is providing over $351,000 in funding towards the project.
ABOUT THE STUDY:
Project Transcendence - Black transgender women are disproportionately impacted by HIV with high rates of HIV infection and lower rates of adherence to HIV care and biomedical HIV prevention. This goal of this study is to determine factors that impact engagement in the HIV prevention continuum for Black transgender women in two communities and pilot a 6-week group/community level intervention informed by gender affirmation theory designed assist Black transgender women progress through the prevention continuum.
