Visiting PhD student Johan Fagerberg!

We are pleased to welcome a visiting PhD student from Uppsala University in Sweden, Johan Fagerberg. Johan received a prestigious fellowship from the Sweden-America Foundation to travel to the US and spend the semester with us. He is currently working on his dissertation on the formation of a professional identity among social work students, which he investigates using ethnographic methods and symbolic interactionist theory. He is interested in learning more about the social work profession and education in the US, as well as gaining insights on social work research during his time in the US.

In his free time, he looks forward to exploring running routes throughout the city as he is an accomplished long-distance runner. He is also developing an interest in films and enjoys attending concerts.

During his semester in Maryland, Johan will have office space in 550 W. Baltimore, sharing a space with our current Postdoctoral Fellows. His faculty mentor for his visiting role is Dr. Rick Barth.

I encourage you to connect with Johan as I know it will enrich his experience by meeting with you. You can contact Johan at johan.fagerberg@uu.se.
