Postdoctoral Fellow Inbar Cohen has a new article published in Social & Legal Studies Journal that explores how the implementation of mental health knowledge affects legal discretion. Using data from interviews with legal and mental health practitioners, Inbar and her fellow authors Prof. Tali Gal and Prof. Guy Enosh from the University of Haifa found that the use of mental health knowledge causes a radical shift in legal discretion so that therapeutic considerations override legal ones. Inbar and her co-authors coined this shift as the "theralegal" discretion.
