PhD Student, Nikita Aggarwal Awarded An Internship In AOEC’s Occupational Health Internship Program (OHIP) For Summer 2023

Association of Occupational and Environmental Clinics' Occupational Health Internship Program (OHIP) works on projects that investigate job-related health and safety problems among workers, often of new immigrant groups, employed in an under-served or a high hazard job. For the summer 2023, Ms. Aggarwal will be working with Amalgamated Transit International Union in conjunction with ATU Local 689.


The project will include the objectives:

1. Identify the major risk factors for transit worker assaults.

2. Identify strategies to mitigate assaults and other safety issues.

3. Develop an assault reporting system and procedures that will be used by unions, transit agencies, and officials.

4. Pilot test the reporting system to evaluate its effectiveness.

5. Offer comparative study on safety at WMATA and the surrounding privately operated systems in Northern Virginia.
