NASW Social Work Advocacy Day February 24

The National Association of Social Workers, Maryland Chapter is holding its 25th Annual Social Work Student Legislative Education and Advocacy Development (LEAD) Day on Thursday, February 24, 2022 (8:45 AM – 3:30 PM) due to renovations in the Capitol complex, this event is a Live Zoom Webinar.

The event is free to NASW-MD student members or $ 5.00 for non-members.


You are invited to join over 400 social work students from across the state to learn about the legislative process, receive an update on current bills concerning various social issues, attend (live virtual) legislative hearings, and network with students across the state. Advocacy is an important component of professional social work practice. The goal of this event is to build the capacity of social work students to understand the legislative process and identify strategies to influence social policies and programs. Keynote: Yaakov (Jake) Weissmann, MSW, Montgomery Co. Assistant Chief Administrative Officer Reflections on a Decade in the Senate President’s Office: Lessons for Social Work Advocates. The program agenda will also include a keynote presentation, remarks from Legislators, report on bills being introduced, workshops on providing testimony the legislative process, how to analyze a bill, legislative advocacy, Social Work Careers in Legislative Advocacy, and other topics.
