Early Adversity and Prevention Science: Promoting positive outcomes in children and families from high-risk environments
Early adversity can have a serious impact on children’s development, with lifelong consequences. In the 2021 Goldson Lecture, Dr. Brenda Jones Harden, Alison Richman Professor for Children and Families at the University of Maryland School of Social Work, will share her work on the impact of adversity on young children, particularly maltreated children, and will explore racial disparities in the outcomes of children experiencing early adversity. As a scientist-practitioner, Dr. Jones Harden has focused on the developmental needs of children who have been maltreated or have experienced other forms of trauma, with an interest in using this research to inform policy and practice, with respect to preventative interventions.
