Professor Yael Latzer graduated from University of Haifa with BA and MA in Clinical Social Work. She obtained her Doctor of Medical Science (DSc.) from the Technion Medical School, in Haifa, Israel and received additional certification in Psychotherapy, Family and Couples Therapy, and Interpersonal Therapy. She held a two-year fellowship position, training in the treatment of eating disorders, at The Psychoanalytic Institute, Menninger Foundation, in Topeka, Kansas, USA, (1989-1991).


Professor Latzer is known throughout the world, as an expert in the field of eating disorder treatment and research. Professor Latzer was the founder and director of the Eating Disorders (EDs) Institution, in the Psychiatric Division in Rambam, Health Care Campus, Haifa )1992 -2016(. She is among the founders of the Israeli Association for Eating Disorders, served as its president for five years. In 2008, Prof Latzer developed and established a rehabilitation house for young women with EDs and received a prestigious prize from the JDC and from the national mental health rehabilitation association excellence in the field of Social Services in Israel, and acknowledgement of her contribution to the field of EDs nationally and internationally. She is Professor and Dean of the School of Social Work, at the University of Haifa, published more than 150 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters and four edited books.


Dr. Latzer main research areas are eating and sleeping disorders, night eating syndrome, epidemiology, identifying at-risk groups and prevention of EDs in Israeli adolescents sub groups, eating disorders and family, treatment Intervention for EDs, religiosity spirituality and EDs, and bariatric surgery and EDs.
