Lunch and Learn: Fatphobia and Social Work Practice

Fatphobia, the discriminatory attitudes and practices towards people with larger bodies, is a form of discrimination that is not always discussed in social workspaces. Fat people experience increased rates of discrimination in healthcare, the workplace and in receiving services they crucially need. These discriminatory experiences further exacerbate structural inequality, especially when you consider those with other marginalized identities.

Join the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (ODEI) and the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee (DEIC) Training and Resources Subcommittee as we discuss fatphobia as it relates to other systems of oppression, including racism; and ways to create more inclusive environments in Social Work practice and our school community.
