Dr. Sacco Presents Research on Interventions for Problem Gambling at National Conference

Dr. Paul Sacco, Associate Professor and lead PI for the Brief Intervention for At-Risk Gambling study funded by the National Center for Responsible Gaming presented a research poster at their recent international conference on gambling and addiction.

While the study did not show the treatment effects of the intervention, participants did comment that the intervention was acceptable to them. The intervention included universal screening for problem gambling, a brief motivational interview intervention using a decisional balance approach, and 30-days of supportive text messaging. Additional research team members working on this project included Dr. Jodi Frey, Dr. Christine Callahan, and Amanda Mosby from UMSSW and Quintin Yarrell from community partner, Consumer Credit Counseling Centers of Maryland and Delaware (CCCSMD) and support from the UMSSW Financial Social Work Initiative.
