Dr. Laurie Graham and Colleagues Published in American Journal of Preventive Medicine

Assistant Professor Dr. Laurie Graham and colleagues have a new paper published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine that explores intimate partner violence (IPV-)-related fatalities among young people aged 0-24. Using 2014-2018 National Violent Death Reporting System data from 38 states, Washington DC, and Puerto Rico, this study found that during the study period, IPV contributed substantially to violent deaths among the focal age group. IPV precipitated 6.5% of deaths overall. Prior research on the contribution of IPV to violent death has focused heavily on homicide-related events; however, this study indicates that IPV meaningfully contributes to youth suicide. This work was supported by Dr. Graham's 2020 NVDRS New Investigator Research Award.
