Dr. Cheung is principal investigator - New grant from the UM Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center

Dr. Christabel Cheung will serve as principal investigator on a new project entitled, “Development of Patient-Centered Navigation Strategies to Reduce Disparities in Financial Hardship across Cancer Treatment and Survival.” Funded by the University of Maryland Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center (UMGCCC) FY22 Community-informed Research Award.

Dr. Cheung will lead a team of interdisciplinary colleagues including Dr. Pranshu Mohindra (Co-I) in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine and Laurie Waldo, who leads the social work team at UMGCCC.

The purpose of this study is to utilize community engagement activities with vulnerable patients and community-based cancer care staff to develop financial navigation strategies for reducing financial hardship among patients at UMGCCC, who reside in Baltimore City and its broader catchment area. This proposal centers on utilization of the oncological patient treatment pathway by the interprofessional oncology care team to reduce disparities from treatment-related financial hardship.
