Do you want to learn more about the role of social work in local government?

Join the Office of Field Education on Wednesday, October 21st at1pm.

You will hear from Mary Gies, LMSW, Senior Legislative Aide, Montgomery County Council, who has 20 years of experience in local government and nonprofit management, and Carmen Kaarid, MSW, Legislative Aide, Montgomery County Council, a recent University of Maryland School of Social Work graduate who is breaking into the field.

Social workers often feel they must “pick a side” - - clinical social work vs. macro social work. That is not the case. A career in local government offers opportunities to effect change on an individual basis and solve problems that originate, develop, and persist in large systems.

This presentation will share information about the role of social work in local government, particularly within the legislative branch.
