8th Annual University of Maryland Symposium on Environmental Justice and Health Disparities (ONLINE)

Registration Open for the Environmental Justice and Health Disparities Conference

will be held August 11-13th.

#UMDejsymposium2022 will convene community members, advocates, nonprofit organizers, policymakers, researchers, and students over the course of three days for an in-depth examination of ongoing environmental and climate justice issues. The last day of the symposium will focus on issues specifically affecting the DC-Maryland-Virginia (DMV) region, while the first two days will examine the issues in a national context . The symposium will take place virtually on August 11th and 12th, 2022, and in-person on Saturday, August 13th, 2022 at the University of Maryland Stamp Student Union.

The in-person event day on Saturday 8/13 will include a breakfast at 9am, sessions from 10am - 6pm with a lunch break in between, and end with a sponsored reception from 6pm - 9pm.


This year, our Symposium’s theme is “Energy vs Power: Visions for the Future, highlighting energy justice, climate change, power dynamics in environmental justice, and the use of technology in environmental justice work. Sessions with discussions on ongoing critical themes such as food sovereignty, healthcare access, community science, environmental justice mapping tools, climate justice, law, policy, and new, relevant topics in just and clean energy transitions will be “energetically” covered.
