Melissa Smith, Assistant Professor, and colleagues have a new paper published in Administration and Policy in Mental Health and Mental Health Services Research that explores definition of community for a racially and ethnically diverse sample of adults with serious mental illness.
Analyzing qualitative interview from sites in Baltimore, New York and Los Angeles, Dr. Smith and colleagues propose a Structural, Functional and Experiential (SFE) model of community. The model provides a conceptual framework and guidance for clinicians, researchers, policy makers and service stakeholders regarding the complexity and variability of community for their consumers, which is essential to their recovery.
