DREAM Disability Justice Meeting: Wednesday, February 19th 5-6pm

Please join us for the first DREAM Disability Justice meeting of the semester on Wednesday, February 19th from 5-6pm in Room 2W11! We will be discussing initiatives to improve accessibility and inclusion at UMSSW over dinner DREAM Disability Justice is a new student group seeking to create an inclusive and supportive community for individuals with disabilities at the University of Maryland School of Social Work, and the community at large. We strive to engage individuals with disabilities and their allies in a respectful and compassionate dialogue to promote disability justice on campus. Through education and advocacy we aim to breakdown cultural and structural barriers to promote the inclusion of persons with disabilities within the School of Social Work, the social work profession, and the community as a whole. While we use the word “disability” in our group’s materials to align with the greater disability rights movement, we recognize that the word disability may not align with every individual’s experience. In an effort to foster a respectful and inclusive environment, we welcome and encourage students to self-identify and use language that reflects and honors their own experience. Please contact Courtney Bergan (cbergan@umaryland.edu) if you have any questions about the group or the meeting.
