The UMSSW is one of the sponsors of a new report on Integrating Social Care into the Delivery of Health Care: Moving Upstream to Improve the Nation's Health published by the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine.
Dean Richard Barth was on the working group of social work leaders that helped to guide the securing of funding for this report and the release of the report. The congressional briefing is invitational but there is an open webinar on Wednesday, September 25th from 11-2 EDT. If you are interested in the social determinants of health and interventions to address them, this is likely to be a valuable presentation. Although we had hoped to get a greater representation of social workers on the panel, and more attention to social work interventions, this is, nonetheless, the first report to focus on operationalizing the long-understood truth that 80% of the determinants of health are independent of medical care.
