A team from the Schools of Social Work, Nursing, and Medicine has received $1.35 million workforce development grant from the Health Services Resources Administration. An interprofessional project team will recruit and train 12 psychiatric nurse practitioners, three psychiatric residents, and 33 MSW students to become providers of behavioral health services to individuals living in high-need localities.
The project will prepare them for interprofessional practice with individuals and families affected by opioid use disorders and comorbid behavioral health conditions with a long term goal of meeting national workforce development needs in behavioral health. Social work students will receive a $10,000 stipend and have the opportunity to train in cross-disciplinary settings responding to the opioid crisis.
Recruitment of foundation students interested in this opportunity will begin in the fall of 2019.
