The Ghosts of White Supremacy: Antero Pietila and the Construction of Baltimore: Past, Present, and

pietella

On Wednesday, March 6th, 2019 at 6:00PM the members of Housing, Homelessness, and Social Policy invite the SSW community to the SSW auditorium for a lecture by Antero Pietila, social historian par excellence of race and class in Baltimore. People "make their own history, but they do not make it as they please; they do not make it under self-selected circumstances, but under circumstances existing already, given and transmitted from the past. The tradition of all dead generations weighs like a nightmare on the brains of the living." Mr. Pietila, author of "Not in My Neighborhood", "Race Goes to War", and "The Ghosts of Johns Hopkins," will describe the elements and dynamics that have transmuted Baltimore into the current arena of contestation, desperate inequality, and organizing for justice.
