NASW-MD Chapter Annual Social Work Students' Advocacy Day in Annapolis February 28, 2019

The National Association of Social Workers, Maryland Chapter’s Social Work Students’ Advocacy Day in Annapolis will be held on THURSDAY, February 28, 2019 in the Miller Senate Building Conference Room. You are invited to join over 300 social work students from across the state to learn about the legislative process, receive an update on current bills concerning various social issues, attend legislative hearings, and network with students across the state. The full-day event is free to NASW-MD student members or $20 for non-members (payable by check or credit card). Lunch is included however transportation is NOT provided. If you have questions concerning registration contact the NASW-MD office at 410-788-1066, ext. 16. There is also a very helpful Frequently Asked Questions handout on the NASW-MD website.

Advocacy is an important component of professional social work practice. The goal of this event is to build the capacity of social work students to influence social policies and programs. Gisele Ferretto and Angela Jachelski are the SSW’s faculty representatives for this event and will attend to assist the UMB SSW students on the day of the event. Students who are attending should notify Ms. Ferretto at gferretto@ssw.umaryland.edu or Ms Jachelski at ajachelski@ssw.umaryland.edu so the appropriate number of handouts are available. You may also contact them if you have any questions concerning the event’s program.
