Mercy High School in Baltimore presents its 2018 Spirit of Mercy Alumna Service Award to Sarah C. Butts '98, executive director of Grand Challenges for Social Work at the University of Maryland's School of Social Work, on December 12 at the school's Foundation Day celebration.
From Mercy High School officials, "Butts was the first administrator of the American Academy of Social Work and Social Welfare and now plays a critical role in addressing some of our society's largest problems--violence, substance abuse, environmental degradation, injustice, isolation and inequality. Through her work influencing social work education, policy and practice, she has dedicated her life to helping people, families and communities be healthy and thrive."
