Lunch Time Research Seminar : Dr. Patrick McArdle "Casual Inference"

Please join us for the upcoming Lunch Time Research Seminar featuring Dr. Patrick McArdle, Associate Professor Epidemiology & Public Health University of Maryland School of Medicine. Presentation Topic: An Introduction to Causal Inference An introduction to causal inference will be provided including discussion of what it is and how to do it. Causal inference will be defined using a three-tier ladder system, with each subsequent rung of the ladder describing an order of magnitude more complex causal query. A framework to perform causal inference will be described. The developed framework lays out a roadmap to perform causal analysis at each rung of the causal ladder. It leads the practitioner through specifying necessary assumption through the use of a causal structural model (SCM) and directed acyclic graphs (DAGs) followed by identification of defined causal estimands. Estimation techniques, including machine learning, will be addressed and finally the transportation of estimates across populations is described DATE: Thursday, NOVEMBER 15th TIME: 12:15-1:45PM ROOM: 4E26 of SSW Bldg. 525 W. Redwood Street, Baltimore, MD 21201 **Pizza and refreshments will be provided** please RSVP by 10/13 to jcanapp@ssw.umaryland.edu
