STUDENTS: Register and Use Duo Now for UMB Tech Access

As a means of strengthening information security and the protection of University data, the University of Maryland, Baltimore applications and services accessed by your UMID and password will require the use of Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) starting Sept. 18, 2018. MFA adds a 2nd step (factor) to how you login with your UMID and password. The University's MFA solution is called DUO.

We encourage you to register and start using DUO now so you will not have any issues when the fall semester starts. To get started, click here:

UMID systems that will be affected by this change include Blackboard, myUMB Portal, Kuali Research, HS/HSL Library resources, etc. This means that logging into these applications will require using DUO, in addition to your UMID and password, while both on campus and off campus.

To use DUO, you must set up one or more devices as your DUO 2nd factor. The DUO Mobile app on your iPhone, Android, or other smartphone is the preferred 2nd factor as it provides the easiest and overall best user experience. Other 2nd factor options can be found on the DUO website below.

Beginning Sept. 18, 2018, in order to login to Campus supported systems protected by the UMID you will need to have your DUO 2nd factor with you at all times, which for most users will be your smartphone.

For additional information on Multi-Factor Authentication and DUO, including details on how to setup DUO on your phone, and other frequently asked questions, please visit:

Please sign-up for DUO by Sept. 18 to avoid encountering any issues accessing UMB applications and to continue to safely and securely access University systems.
