Family League Provides Funding for SWCOS Community Schools

The Family League has awarded over $200,000 to the School of Social Work's Social Work Community Outreach Service (SWCOS) for Community School efforts in Fiscal Year 2019. The purpose of this project will be to provide a Community School Strategy to four Elementary and Middle Schools in Baltimore City: Harlem Park, Wolfe Street Academy, Wildwood (formerly Lyndhurst) and James McHenry.

This strategy functions as the connector between the School of Social Work, the Elementary/Middle school and the greater community with a focus on improving outcomes for students, families and communities. The Community School Coordinator does this through promoting and facilitating strategic conversations among diverse stakeholders; leveraging unique community resources and partnerships to meet community needs; and serving as a catalyst for change within the school and community at large.
