The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMSHA) has awarded the UMSSW's Institute for Innovation & Implementation a 5-year grant to support its B'More SUCCEEDS program.
B’More SUCCEEDS is led by The Institute for Innovation & Implementation (The Institute) at the School of Social Work in partnership with the YES Drop-In Center, HARBEL Community Organization, Treatment Resources for Youth, Baltimore City Health Department/B’More for Healthy Babies, Behavioral Health Systems Baltimore, HealthCare Access Maryland, the Baltimore Mayor’s Office on Human Services, and the Baltimore Harm Reduction Coalition. The team at The Institute working on B’More SUCCEEDS includes Deborah Harburger, MSW (Principal Investigator), Amanda Miller, MSW (Project Director),Margo Candelaria, PhD (Lead Evaluator).
The purpose of B’More SUCCEEDS is to enhance and expand youth-driven, trauma-responsive, and comprehensive treatment, early intervention, and recovery support for homeless youth and young adults with substance use disorders who are pregnant and/or parenting in Baltimore City. We intend to increase the number of youth served with evidence-based services and increase access, engagement, and retention in physical and behavioral health treatment; expand the knowledge, skills, and/or capacity of providers to work with youth and appropriately respond to youth experiencing a mental health or substance use challenge; improve mental health outcomes; increase abstinence from the use of substances; improve parenting skills and family functioning; improve access to developmentally appropriate, quality educational, employment, and housing services and supports for youth; and, decrease youth involvement in and exposure to crime and violence. Funding for B’More SUCCEEDS comes from the Center for Substance Use Treatment, Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services under the Enhancement and Expansion of Treatment and Recovery Services for Adolescents, Transitional Aged Youth, and their Families funding opportunity.
