On May 28, Dr. Michael Reisch, Daniel Thursz Distinguished Professor of Social Justice, presented a paper at an international conference in Hannover, Germany on inequality in the United States.
Dr. Reisch discussed the effects of social and fiscal policies in increasing or reducing various forms of inequality and the implications of policies recently adopted or proposed by the Trump Administration and Congress. The theme of the conference, funded by the Volkswagen Foundation, was the impact of the contradictions produced by changes in the welfare state.
Approximately 50 scholars and policy makers from over 20 countries attended the conference. Condensed versions of the conference papers will be published next year. A follow-up conference in 2019 is being planned.
