Happy 200th Birthday, Karl! Party and Movie Today, May 7, Noon in 3e08

Join us today at lunchtime to celebrate the 200th birthday of Karl Marx (May 5, 1818) with pizza, birthday cake, and showing of the recent documentary THE YOUNG KARL MARX by Raoul Peck from noon-2pm in room 3e08. All are welcome. In his review for Inside Higher Ed, Scott McLemee found the film "...a nuanced and surprisingly accurate portrait of the revolutionary as a young man." Given the massive and growing gap between the richest and the rest - both in the U.S. and the world - McLemee notes the relevancy of Marx, who in 1859 wrote in the New York Tribune, "There must be something rotten in the very core of a social system which increases its wealth without diminishing its misery."
