Hiring Summer Research Assistants at the SSW


We are seeking to hire up to five stellar and highly motivated graduate-level research assistants (RAs) for the 2018 summer term.

RAs will conduct semistructured telephone interviews with representatives from hospice agencies across the country. The purpose of the study is to understand and address challenges to providing end-of-life care during a national opioid epidemic. RAs will assist with survey wording, recruitment and tracking of progress. Positions are part time (20 hours per week) in June and will transition to full-time (40 hours per week) in both July and August. Non-UMB students and recent graduates are also eligible to apply.

Priority will be given to students with a demonstrated aptitude for research as evidenced by high marks in prior research classes and/or prior hands-on experience working on research projects. Knowledge of, interest in, or experience with the following populations is also desirable:

1. Persons with a history of substance misuse or addiction;

2. Patients and families dealing with life threatening illness;

3. Hospice and palliative care

Preferred candidates will be well organized, able to work in a team-based setting, and have strong reading, interviewing, and typing skills. RAs will receive training on research recruitment, interviewing techniques, quantitative and qualitative data collection, hospice and palliative care, as well as basic medical/pharmaceutical terminology.
