SSW Staff Profile: Seante Hatcher

Every other week during the semester we showcase one staff member. This week we get to know Seante Hatcher, Program Director of the School's Continuing Professional Education Office.

How would you describe yourself?

I have a playful sense of humor- borderline goofy once you get to know me. I love international travel and Karaoke. If you need someone to tell you the truth or want someone's opinion- I'm the person. I'm driven, reliable and hardworking.

When did you join the SSW and what is your day-to-day role?

I joined the SSW in July 2012. I feel that I play two roles. As a Director, I create the vision for the future of CPE which means that I find ways to expand and grow the program. However, with the help of my staff, I manage the day-to-day training while finding new and innovative workshop ideas and trainers.

What skills are needed for your role?

There are a lot of moving parts, so organizational skills are helpful (or at least making sure that your team has those skills to assist you). I am a glutton for information and really enjoy learning new things which are helpful because you need to have an eye for new and popular trends in the field. Lastly, having great de-escalation skills. Many of our participants are anxious about their licensing renewal but there are guidelines that you have to abide by; so it is helpful to have creative ways to say no.

What's the most rewarding and challenging part of your work?

Rewarding: Choosing the Bloom flower and the release of new Blooms. Also having a very supportive team. Challenging: Editing and Finalizing the Bloom for Print.

What would you be doing if you hadn't followed this career path?

Either being a movie/Broadway critic or finding a way to travel the world on someone else's dime.

How do you relax when you're not at work?

Karaoke, fine dining, going to the movies and NYC Broadway shows, planning International trips and having philosophical conversations with friends.

What's playing in your car right now?

The Broadway Musical, Hamilton, Soundtrack. I probably know it word for word and was so excited to see the play for my Birthday in 2016.

What would you most like to tell yourself at age 13?

Exploration is far better than meeting an arbitrary timeline. Truthfully, I don't think I would have listened.

You're happiest when....I'm in good company having a good laugh or on an international trip.

Where can people find you on social media if they want to follow you? i.e., Twitter, LinkedIn?

I will only accept LinkedIn requests.
