Faculty, students, alumni, and friends, including participants in the CARES program, are invited to join Everyman Theatre for an afternoon of theatre and dialogue on Sunday, February 25 for a matinee showing (2 pm) of Long Day's Journey Into Night, Eugene O'Neil's classic drama. A small, post-performance reception will feature a panel of Addictions Specialists from the University of Maryland School of Social Work, CARES (Center for Addiction, Research, Education, and Services), and the behavioral health community (as well as possibly production staff, cast members, and directors). Eugene O’Neill’s LONG DAY’S JOURNEY INTO NIGHT was written 75 years ago, but its revelations on drug use, alcoholism, family dynamics and emotional pain are as resonant and relevant today as ever. The play penetrates in three-dimensions the contradictions, complexities, and pains within a family or community weighted with drug use. For these reasons the Community Engagement department at Everyman Theatre is partnering with behavioral health organizations to create platforms and events for de-stigmatizing addiction during the run of the production.
