Social Work in Health Care announces a special issue dedicated to social work intervention in integrated health settings, particularly to address needs of children, youth, and families in primary care. Social work practice in integrated health settings is rapidly expanding and social work interventions in transformed settings are working to improve individual, family, and community health and well-being. Rapid system transformations demonstrate a need for further evidence regarding social work contributions to new models of care. Due to their varied skill set and understanding of the social determinants of health, social workers can assess and support patients, guide patients through systems, educate patients about health and wellness, address behavioral health through a variety of brief treatment modalities, facilitate connections to non-medical resources, and advocate for patients and improve overall access to care. Social Work in Health Care is looking for papers that highlight the role of social work practice and intervention in integrated healthcare settings. Special emphasis will be given to manuscripts that address social work practice with pediatric and young adult populations, family engagement, and papers in which integration occurred in primary care settings. Clinical and practice innovations related to the Behavioral Health Workforce Education and Training (BHWET) grant funded by Health Resources Service Administration (HRSA) in 2014 and 2017 are encouraged. Research articles, critical reviews, studies with emphasis on translational aspects and implementation of integrated models of care involving social work will be considered. The aim of this special issue is to articulate the various models of care, interventions, and contributions of social work in integrated settings, particularly for young people and their families.
