November 9, 2017

PhD Candidates Lisa Fedina and Boyoung Nam and Dr. Hyun-Jin Jun have a new paper published in Preventive Medicine that explores the prevalence and nature of police violence among women in four U.S. Cities. Using data from Survey of Police-Public Encounters (N = 932), Fedina, Nam, and Jun found that a notable proportion of women report police violence exposures, with disproportionately higher rates found among racial and ethnic minorities. Women with histories of intimate partner violence and sexual violence had increased odds for police violence exposures, suggesting that IPV and sexual violence may increase risk for police victimization.
