New advanced policy course for students in health & behavioral health specializations

Integrated Behavioral Health Policy (SOWK 708) will be offered this fall on Fridays, 9am-12pm, as an option for the advanced policy requirement for the Health Specialization and the Behavioral Health Specialization.

This course is designed to prepare students to analyze, develop, and implement health and behavioral health policies across a range of settings, including prevention/promotion services, primary care, acute care, chronic care, and long-term care. A major focus will be the impact of policies on excluded, marginalized, and vulnerable populations, and the evaluation of policies based on the social work profession’s ethical criteria such as fairness, social justice, anti-oppression, self-determination, and human dignity. The course will also discuss current policy debates about the future of health care and behavioral health care.

Students who would like to learn more about this class should contact Dr. Amanda Lehning at alehning@ssw.umaryland.edu.
