After the recent headlines on the rights of transgendered individuals in the US military, and some legal ambiguity about this, it might be helpful to assure the UM SSW community that we do have protections in place related to the civil rights of persons regardless of gender identity and expression.
The UMB Notice of Non-Discrimination includes gender identity and expression. By extension the policies and procedures related to how we address discrimination apply to any concern or complaint raised by an individual who identifies as transgender.
