Dababnah and Park Published in the Journal of Child and Family Studies

Assistant Professor Sarah Dababnah, Doctoral Candidate Hyeshin Park, and a colleague at Morgan State University have a new paper published in the Journal of Child and Family Studies that explores the relationship between different types of disabilities and adoption outcomes of African American children. Using data from a survey of over 400 African American children adopted from the child welfare system, Dr. Dababnah and colleagues found a positive association between each disability category (chronic health issues such as asthma; emotional and behavioral disorders; and, intellectual and developmental disabilities) and reported parental burden. However, no relationship was found between child disability and either caregiver commitment, nor adoption dissolution.
