Associate Professor Lisa Berlin has been awarded a grant of $328,021 to lead a 2.5-year evaluation of the Maryland Family Connects program to be delivered by The Family Tree in collaboration with Sinai Hospital.
The Family Connects program is a universal nurse home visiting program developed at Duke University. The program is designed to increase child and family well-being through standardized assessment of family need and risk and facilitated connections between new parents and appropriate community resources.
Focusing on Baltimore City residents who give birth at Sinai Hospital, Maryland Family Connects will offer up to four nurse home visits to new mothers and their birth- to three-month-old infants. Dr. Berlin and her team, including SSW doctoral student Katherine Endy, will evaluate program effects in approximately 400 families when the infants are 6 months old.
