The School's Social Work Community Outreach Service (SWCOS) has received over $53,000 in funding from the Mayor's Office of Human Services to help support Baltimore City public school attendance initiatives in three elementary schools that fall in the Southwest Partnership footprint.
SWCOS will recruit, train and support 3 participants of the Public Allies Maryland program to serve as attendance monitors in order to increase average daily attendance in West Baltimore. Any absence, whether excused or not, denies students the opportunity to learn in accordance with the school's instructional program, but students who miss school are sometimes further excluded from learning opportunities as a consequence of chronic absenteeism.
