Still time to register for Spring 1 credit SBIRT course!


Students interested in this 1-credit course: SBIRT - Screening, Brief Intervention, Referral to Treatment, must contact the SSW Office of Records & Registration at: sswregistration@ssw.umaryland.edu and request to be registered. The deadline for registration is April 10th. Students taking 9-credits or more will have no change in their tuition/fees cost. Students taking less than 9-credits will bear the cost of tuition/fees for an extra 1-credit. The SBIRT course meets Tuesday, April 18th, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM and Wednesday, and April 19th, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM. The purpose of this 1 credit course is to develop the ability to independently screen and provide brief interventions, and referral for treatment for substance use in community settings, including health centers, EAP, child welfare settings, criminal justice organizations, schools, and mental health providers. This course will use lectures, group discussion, and standardized client simulation to train students to conduct SBIRT screening in social work practice settings. This is a hands-on course that will give students an opportunity to apply this innovative evidence based practice in real-world settings and a chance to build their practical skills. NOTE: This course is especially appropriate for students who are Advanced Standing, or have not received SBIRT training in SOWK 630.
