The National Association of Social Workers, Maryland (NASW-MD) Chapter’s Social Work Students’ Advocacy Day in Annapolis will be held on Thursday, February 23, 2017. Join over 300 social work students from across Maryland to learn about the legislative process, receive an update on current state bills concerning various social issues, attend legislative hearings, and network with students across the state. (This event in Annapolis is different from the Social Work Student Advocacy Day on Capitol Hill.) Advocacy is an important component of professional social work practice. The goal of this event is to build the capacity of social work students to influence social policies and programs. Dr. Joan Davitt and Gisele Ferretto are the SSW’s faculty representatives for this event and will be in attendance to assist the SSW students the day of the event. NASW-MD Students’ Advocacy Day falls on the Maryland Behavioral Health Coalition’s Scheduled Rally and students in attendance may participate. The full-day event is free to NASW-MD student members or $15 for non-members (payable by check, cash or credit card to NASW-MD). Lunch is included; however, transportation is NOT provided. STUDENTS WHO ARE PLANNING ON ATTENDING MUST REGISTER TO NASW-MD BY FEBRUARY 17. To register contact the NASW-MD office at 410-788-1066, ext. 16. For more information about this event go to NASW website: www.nasw-md.org under “Student Center”; there you will find the agenda and the Frequently Asked Questions handout. PLEASE NOTE: The registration process is different for Title IV-E Students, who should refer to the Title IV-E Blackboard Course announcement. You may contact Dr. Davitt at firstname.lastname@example.org or Ms. Ferretto at email@example.com if you have questions concerning the event’s program.
