Social Work Student Advocacy Day on Capitol Hill!

Join hundreds of students from social work schools from all across the country for an exciting day in the nation’s capital! More than 400 students from 45 schools and departments of social work from 16 states registered for the Student Advocacy Day on the Hill held March 1, 2016. This event is sponsored by the Congressional Research Institute for Social Work and Policy, the Social Work Department of Gallaudet University and the Nancy A. Humphreys Institute for Political Social Work at the University of Connecticut.

This year’s activities will begin with a opening program at the Elstad Auditorium at Gallaudet University. Buses will transport you to Capitol Hill where you will have the opportunity to meet with Congressional staff and advocate on legislation critical to social workers and the people we serve. We will return to Gallaudet University after congressional office visits for the screening of the YVOTE video documentary.

Students will be scheduled to visit the office of the Congressional Member representing the district that your school resides in. However, time permitting students will also have the opportunity to vist the office of their local Congess Member or the offices of members of the Congressional Social Work Caucus. Congressional offices will be notified in advance of impending visits.

Who Can Attend?

Social work and public health students at all levels–baccalaureate, masters and doctoral–are welcome to participate. Social work faculty, recent graduates and early career professionals are encouraged to attend. Complete the registration form and pay the $15 registration fee (lunch is not included).
