Study published in Epidemiology and Psychiatric Sciences shows that police victimization is commonly reported in U.S. cities, inequitably distributed across racial/ethnic groups, and related to depression and psychological distress. Findings are based on survey data collected in Baltimore, New York, Philadelphia, and Washington D.C. (N=1615). This is one of the first studies to report community-based estimates of police victimization, and one of the first to look at mental health correlates of negative encounters between civilians and police.
