Breaking Frames Art Show at the Eubie Blake Cultural Center on Saturday, November 5th

November 1, 2016

Join the SSW's Promise Heights at the Eubie Blake Cultural Arts Center this Saturday, November 5th, at 6 pm for Breaking Frames, a one of a kind art show and benefit for the students of the Renaissance Academy High School #433!

The project investigates the systemic issues that impact Renaissance students and students of color nationwide, including race, class, poverty, and violence. Participating students wrote unique responses to prompts about their experiences as black youth in Baltimore and the current conditions they observe in their neighborhoods. There was an open call to artists through which over 50 artist from across the country responded. Each artist created an original piece of artwork inspired by each student’s writing and photograph. Some artists were able to meet their student face-to-face.

Breaking Frames was conceptualized by Kristen Yoder, art teacher at Renaissance Academy, and her college roommate Deanna Wardin, tattoo artist and shop owner in San Francisco. Feel free to read more about the project and the artists involved on the project website www.breakingframes-art.com

Art from this show can be purchased through online auction starting on Saturday, November 5th at 6pm. Link will appear on the Breaking Frames website homepage (breakingframes.art@gmail.com).   Hope to see you there at the Eubie Blake Cultural Center (847 N. Howard Street) on November 5th, 6-8 pm!
