Oct. 19: Advancing Public Policy to Recognize and Support Family Caregivers

On October 19 in the SMC Campus Center, Lynn Friss Feinberg, MSW, Senior Strategic Policy Advisor with AARP's Public Policy Institute will discuss "Advancing Public Policy to Recognize and Support Family Caregivers." The event, followed by a panel discussion moderated by the SSW's Amanda Lehning, begins at 3:30 PM with registration and then goes from 4 to 6 with a reception following.

In 2015, an estimated 34.2 million adult Americans served as an unpaid caregiver to someone aged 50 or older in the prior 12 months. Given the projected increase in the older adult population, as well as a growing emphasis on aging in place, the U.S. long-term care system will likely become even more reliant on caregivers in the future.

U.S. public policy has largely ignored the needs of caregivers for vulnerable adults. This event will feature a speaker and panelists who will discuss the ways policies and programs can recognize and support the diverse needs of family caregivers.
