Paid Education Internship Opportunity with UMB CURE!

The UMB CURE Scholars Program is currently seeking applicants for our six Lead Mentor applications for the 2016-2017 school year.

UMB CURE is a science pipeline for underrepresented minority students in three West Baltimore middle schools. The UMB CURE Lead Mentors will lead a mentor team and coordinate STEM-related projects for Tuesday and Thursday after-school sessions. All curriculum is developed by a UMB CURE Staff, so no science background is required! One intern per grade will be assigned to each of our three partner schools (six positions total). Lead mentors will gain valuable teaching experience in running the after-school sessions, and teachers from each respective school will also be present to provide assistance. To foster a meaningful and productive relationship for both the scholars and the Lead Mentors, the internship will comprise both fall and spring semesters. Lead Mentors will receive a stipend of $4,000 to offset travel and related expenses. In addition to hands-on classroom instruction, interns gain experience with curriculum development as well as resource, grant and personnel management and will work directly with the UMB CURE team, a dedicated group of UMB faculty and staff. As part of this team, Lead Mentors participate in quarterly Advisory Board meetings that provide valuable opportunities to network with prominent healthcare education professionals and stakeholders from public and private sectors.

Please contact Emily Rencsok, UMB CURE Mentoring Specialist, at erencsok@umaryland.edu for more information or apply for a lead mentor position online by 9/25 at www.umaryland.edu/cure-scholars.
