Dr. Oliveira (Brazil) to Speak at SSW Oct. 5, Path of Epidemics: Comparing HIV & Zika


Dr. Marcio de Oliveira, M.D., MSc., will speak at the School of Social work 12:15, Oct. 5 SSW Auditorium on “Path of Epidemics: comparing HIV & Zika.

In Brazil, Dr. Oliveira is an Infectious Disease Specialist, with specific research interests in HIV transmissions and ART resistance. His most recent work includes Zika infected patients. He is affiliated with the Sao Rafael’s Hospital, in Salvador, Brazil, the city with the highest Zika rates globally. Following his lecture and questions, a light lunch will be served in the atrium. Dr. Oliveira will also be speaking and answering questions in the SOWC 631 class (Dr. Schneider) at 2 p.m. the same day. All are also invited to this informal discussion. Dr. Oliveira is visiting the UMB campus for 10 days. He hosted a group of UMB students last year in his Salvador, Brazil, clinic, including a social work student.
