Opportunities to Prevent and End Youth Homelessness Discussion with US DHHS Leadership

You are cordially invited to join U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary, Julián Castro, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Public and Indian Housing, Lourdes Castro Ramírez, and U.S Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children, Youth, and Families (HHS-ACYF) Commissioner, Rafael López, for an important discussion on using the Family Unification Program (FUP) to help prevent and end youth homelessness. FUP offers communities the opportunity to form partnerships between local public housing agencies and child welfare agencies to address the housing and service needs of families and youth who are involved or have been involved in the child welfare system and are facing housing insecurity. The FUP program for youth has had several significant developments in the last year through the passage of the Housing Opportunities Through Modernization Act (HOTMA), signed by President Obama on July 29, 2016, and the launch of the FUP and Family Self Sufficiency (FSS) Demonstration (FUP-FSS Demonstration), which will soon be available in more than 50 communities. Secretary Castro and Commissioner López, will discuss these exciting opportunities for your community and talk about the importance of partnering to serve youth who are aging out of the foster care system, and helping to ensure no former foster youth experiences homelessness. When: Monday, August 29, 2016 at 2:30 PM EST Please register at: http://www.hud.gov/emarc/index.cfm?fuseaction=emar.registerEvent&eventId=2907&update=N
