Research Presentation: Latinx Immigrant Community | 3/17

Dr. Berger Cardoso’s research examines multilevel factors that disrupt and protect psychological well-being in children and adults. Most of her research has focused on Latinx immigrant families in the United States, she also published on the experiences of U.S. citizen children in Mexico, as well as deported Salvadoran fathers with U.S citizen children.

Dr. Cardoso is particularly interested in how to prevent and intervene on symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder and other trauma-related disorders that are often tied to factors like community violence, the migration journey, family separation and reunification, and immigration enforcement polices in the U.S. In this presentation, Dr. Cardoso will describe her research agenda and discuss how she aligns it with the evolving needs of the Latinx immigrant community in Houston, nationally, and internationally.
