2018-2019
Faculty leads: Joan Pittman, MSW, PhD, School of Social Work
Deborah Gioia, MSSW, PhD, School of Social Work

UMB social work, nursing, pharmacy and public health students will learn about different and similar models of mental health and health care practices in India and the United States. The course includes participation in the Dyuti 2019 International Conference at Rajagiri College in Kerala, India. While in India, students and faculty will visit social service, mental health, and health programs in Kerala to meet with consumers and providers. Through small group discussions, assignments, and journaling, students will have opportunities to learn how different cultures approach issues of health, and mental health.
Social work students who are accepted will be registered for course SOWK 705 as part of their Spring 2019 course load. Thus they will be eligible for financial aid for the course expenses.
Nursing and public health students can either sign up for SOWK 705 (through School cross listings) or see if independent credit is available through their respective schools. If so, nursing and public health students might also be eligible for student loan support.
