SSRC Webinar Today! Beyond Housing Policy: Human Service Policies to Address Housing Instability

Join us today, March 7, 2018 from 2:00 - 3:30 p.m. EST for an exciting webinar titled Beyond Housing Policy: Human Service Policies to Address Housing Instability.

This webinar will focus on how social services, specifically the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), child support, and ex-offender reentry programs, can potentially reduce housing instability among low-income and vulnerable populations. This moderated webinar will delve further into the current impact of these programs on housing stability, whether expansion of these supports can reduce (or further reduce) housing instability, and their effect on more extremes forms of stable housing barriers, such as eviction or homelessness.

During the free webinar, Drs. Natasha Pilkauskas and Katherine Michelmore will present on the impact of the EITC program in reducing housing instability among low-income households. Dr. Marah Curtis will discuss whether regular child support receipt allows mothers to access higher quality housing and potentially avoid frequent, disruptive moves. Finally, Patricia McKernan will close with a discussion on barriers homeless re-entry populations face in securing affordable and safe housing while also addressing what strategies may help ex-offenders overcome this barrier.
